The island nation of Maldives was invaded by foreign mercenaries, and President Gayoom sent an S.O.S. to Rajiv Gandhi for help at midnight. On the latter's orders, the Indian Naval ships immediately reached the Maldives shores and landed paratroopers on the occupied capital of Male. The invaders were captured and a free Maldives was handed over to President Gayoom. A friend's friend indeed.
