Mrs. Sonia Gandhi was flown to Madras by an IAF plane to bring the body of her slain husband. Even in her grief, she had asked PSO Kaushik to convey to the authorities to bring the body of PSO Pradeep Gupta too. Suddenly, Sonia noticed that while Rajiv's coffin was covered with flowers, not a single flower was on the coffin of the PSO. She quietly got up, and alongwith daughter Priyanka, laid a wreath on the body of Pradeep Gupta. later, she had deputed R.L.Bhatia to represent her at the cremation of Pradeep Gupta.
