| After
losing the 1989 elections, Rajiv visited
Patna, accompanied by only one PSO Pradeep
Gupta, as his SPG security cover had
been withdrawn by the Govt. As thousands
of people wanted to be near Rajiv, and
touch him, the PSO’s foot was
trampled upon and it was sore. Rajiv
took out a pain-killer spray and after
removing the PSO’s socks, himself
sprayed the toe, giving the PSO instant
relief. PSO Pradeep Gupta murmured,
‘I can give my life for this great
man’. PSO Gupta later died with
his boss at Sriperumbudur on 21 May,
1991. |
