Freedom fighter Smt. Janki Devi Varma considered Rajiv Gandhi as an “Incarnation of Lord Rama”. And she had an opportunity to meet her idol at the wedding of the daughter of Defence Secretary Mr. S.K. Bhatnagar. Seeing Rajiv surrounded by his security guards, she requested her son Umesh whether she could meet Rajiv. As Rajiv approached her, the old lady tightly hugged him and it appeared that her emotions had over taken her, and she would not release her hold. And when Rajiv was assassinated, she gave up her food, and eventually died, followed her beloved Rajiv to heaven.
